Pendragon: Black Water

Pendragon Book five, Black Water
By: D.J. MacHale

In the fifth book of this fiction series, Bobby Pendragon, a fifteen year old boy from Stony Brook Connecticut is whisked off to the territory of Eelong.

Eelong is a jungle territory, which is like a planet, inhabited by Gars, Tangs, and Klees, which are all different species of animals. Klee are like lions and tigers and other jungle cats except they can stand on their hind legs. Klees are the dominant race on Eelong. Then there are tangs which are giant lizards and gars which are intelligent humans except the klees treat them like slaves.

Bobby believes Saint Dane, the evil traveler who wants to destroy everything that is and ever was, is trying to kill of the klees and disrupt the food chain. What Bobby doesn't know is after what happened on Vellox the "rules" have changed and now more then ever he needs the help of his two best friend Mark and Courtney to help save Eelong.

I thought it was very interesting how the author changed the book so instead of having the main race resemble humans they are big jungle cats. I also love how he created Eelong because it's different then what were used to, like how instead of one sun they have a sun band that goes all the way around the planet.

I think D.J. MacHale is trying to send a message that everyone should get equal respect. He makes you think about if humans were lesser beings and why we should treat everything with respect. I think it also enforces that no one should be imprisoned or made a slave. Even though thing may look different they still have feelings. I'm not just talking about humans, I'm talking about dogs, cats, cows, plants, platypuses and every other living thing you can think of because we all have feelings.

I think this was a great book it brought up a lot of good points and was also a fun book to read. I would recommend this book to most people although read the beginning of the series first. I would give this book an A

Fantastic job! I, too, think it's awesome how the author pretty much took earth and twisted everything about it to create Eelong. Combine a place like that with an author like MacHale, and you get an intriguing story originated on an exotic planet with a great theme to back it up!
