She found a house in the forest and they helped her until they could get into the city where she could explain to the King what had happened. When Ani had gone to talk to the King she found out how dumb her plan was and she couldn't just say that she was the princess because Selia was already there being a fraud princess. Also, she knew that Selia could convince the King to believe what she said because she had the power of people-speaking and people would believe almost everything that she said. So when she went to the King with her eyebrows dyed and her hair hidden in a hat so she wouldn't stick out of the crowd she asked for a job. He supplied her with the job of keeping his geese. Now, she has to work hard to keep her identity a secret.
As she was goose girl she met a man named Geric who claimed to be the Princes' guard. Him and her would talk on afternoons until one day he said he couldn't see her again. Ani was heart broken. Meanwhile she was also making some friends with the other animal workers and one of them named Enna knew her secret about being the princess. Also Ani is learning the language of geese. She knows how to talk to birds because her aunt had taught her how to. Also Ani could communicate with her horse Falada who she hadn't seen since the forest and missed him a ton. When Ani hears that Bayern is going to have a war against Kildenree she realizes she can't stay in hiding forever and so she decides she is going to need some help.
Through out this book I had to keep on thinking what's going to happen? Or What!? Why would she do that? But I felt like it was nicely wrapped up at the end. The book is kind of based on the olden days and I realized how much society has changed.
I absolutely loved this book. To me this book showed self-worth and that you can get over your problems and hardships. It is one of those books that I could not put down. To me it was good. But for those who don't like romance it looks like this probably wouldn't be the book for you because there is some romance in it, even though without the romance the book would probably not work.
