Beyond Foo by, Obert Skye was a great book! It is
perfect for teenagers interested in a fantasy book. Obert Skye has also
written the Leven Thumps Series. This book includes some of the same characters
but in a whole new story! You don't have to read the Leven Thumps Series to
understand this book. It is a great book either way!
This story tells about the
adventures of Geth, a Lithen, and Clover his Sycophant. Both Geth and Clover live in
Foo, and have been seeking adventure ever since they got back from reality
(our world). They come across a cave with
an interesting noise coming from it. They go deeper into the cave, they find
a Onus (a creature in Foo). The Onus starts chasing them as soon as he
sees them, and they all fall into a canyon. They all hit the ground
and none them are conscious.
Geth and Clover wake up and
realize they are in the canyon. Unfortunately the only way out is to walk to the ending
of the canyon. They start their long journey. As the sun goes down they stop
and try to get some sleep. Soon they get waken up by a girl who looks lost. She gets overjoyed at the fact that Geth is a Lithen. She says she has come for Geth and that her name is Eve. They start to travel with Eve, as soon sunlight comes something knocks them all out.
Geth and Clover wake up and they are tied up, in a jail cell. To make matters worse, Eve isn't with them! They find out that they are in Zendor, a sad place on the Border of Foo. The evil king, Payt, has taken over Zendor. Any person caught during daylight is captured by boors, evil tree people who work for Payt, If they are caught they will most likely be turned into a boor themselves by Payt. They assume that Boors are probabaly what knocked them out. Geth and Clover escape from the jail to try to save Eve from being killed by Payt.
Along their journey to save Eve they run into several different groups of people hiding from Payt. Some of these people and creatures include, The Stone Holders, Those Who Live Above Ground, and even a secret creature called a Tangle. They also run into one of Geth's family members who they thought was dead!
This book was very interesting because the reader doesn't know what is coming next. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole book. Although, at times the book was very frustrating to me because of the way it ended. It seemed like it stopped in the middle of the book. The author needed to tell more and close it off better. Also, I felt that the author's descriptions of characters and setting didn't go into enough details. As a result of this I wasn't able to imagine what it would be like to be in the story. I wish the author would have done this so I could connect more to the story. The theme wasn't very clear either. At certain parts it was really unclear on what was going on.
Over all his book was a pretty good book, even though it had its rough spots. I would recommend it to any teenager interested in a entertaining fantasy book. Even though it had a few glitches, you should still read it.
