The Power of Six
By: Pittacus Lore
The Power of Six is a book of suspense, and adventures, and also is the sequel of I am Number Four. I suggest reading my book review of I am Number Four and the book, before you read this review. Just a warning, this book has a little mild language. If that bothers you I don't suggest reading this book.
In this book it follows not just John, but another member of the Garde, number seven. When the book is following John he is not alone, he is with number six, and his friend Sam. They are trying to run away from their enemies, the Mogadorians, and also from the police.
When they are with number seven, also known as Marina, it is much different. She lives in an orphanage in Spain with her guardian, Adelina, they had to go there when they ran out of money and had no where else to go. Marina never got a chance to be adopted even if she wanted to, but worst of all, her guardian lost faith in saving their race, and returning to their home planet, which has left Marina heart broken, but one day another girl named Ella, shows up at the orphanage because her parents had died. When Ella arrived, no one befriended her except Marina.
One interesting thing that connects this book is that as Marina goes throughout her daily activities, in between she goes on the internet and looks for information about a John Smith, who is in the news and is on the run from police. She ponders about if John is one of them and how he manages to escape the police. Yet she doesn't know that he is one of them, and their both looking for each other.
John on the other hand has it way harder. He has to run away and keep hidden from the Mogadorians and the police, while having strong feelings to see his girlfriend, Sarah. John, Six, and Sam also try to look for clues of the others, or anything that can help them to beat the Mogadorians. The also have some major, close encounters with their enemies. Now since Henri, John's Cepan, died, John can now open his box that was left for him along with a letter written by Henri. He learns a lot about his home planet, more about his legacies, and the whole reason why he and Henri went to paradise, Ohio. One thing John discusses with Sam and Six is about when six got captured by the Mogadorians. John and Sam plan to go back to the Mogadorians main hideout in West Virginia, while Six goes to Spain. She heard about something in the news and thinks that a member of the Garde is in Spain, and they need her help.
Back in Marina's story you learn about the legacies that she already has, while also discovering some new ones. Because Marina's cepan has given up on her and the others, Marina has never seen the box that was left for her. Her cepan, Adelina, has hidden it and wont tell her where it is, so Marina uses Ella to her advantage. She and Ella both look for her box from time to time, and when they do find her box, Marina can't open it because she needs Adelina, and Adelina wont agree to that.
One night when Marina is sleeping she wakes up and looks out her window, there she sees a dark figure watching her, but when she looks at the figure it then disappears immediately. In the morning she tells Adelina about the figure she saw and that she thinks that it might be a Mogadorian. Adelina for once actually thinks that the Mogadorians have found them, and takes the situation seriously. She says that they need to leave, but of course Marina says she needs to say good bye to her friends. She hates to leave Ella and her friend, Hector, behind but knows that it's the best for her and them. But when she goes to a cafe to say good bye to Hector, she notices that Hector is not sitting alone. As she gets closer she realizes that Hector is talking to the man she saw in her window. She immediately reacts and starts running back to the orphanage, hoping she can reach Adelina before they reach her.
I loved this book so much! It was very intense and I couldn't put it down. In the book it has a lot of action, some romance, and a little bit of betrayal. After reading the first book it left me with a couple questions, and I felt that this book answered them, but left me with a couple more. I cant wait to read the third book to answer those questions! I give this book an A+
