Pendragon Book 7: The Quillan Games

Pendragon Book 7: The Quillan Games
By: D.J. Machale

In the seventh installment of this ten book fantasy series, Bobby Pendragon, 17 year old traveler, goes to save yet another territory, Quillan. Quillan is an odd territory to say the least. Instead of government, a store company like Walmart rules the planet. There is government, but the store became more powerful than the government.

Bobby has to compete in life or death games that are run by two psychotic people. These games are played by challengers --any young person who was unfortunate enough to get kidnapped and taken to a castle. Not only is it life or death for the challengers, people wager on these games in order to get a little more food or a little bit of money. Some get to the point where they wager their lives or the lives of their families to try and win. The ultimate bet results in a slow and painful death. How are you supposed to help people in that much trouble? That's what Bobby has to figure out.

I really like this book and this book series. This book was really exciting, but sad at the same time. It brings sadness to think that people are that greedy that they would bet their children and family on a single game. It shows how much power and greed truly rules society.

I think the author brought up some good points in this book, like how addictions can hurt the ones you love. It's almost like the people on Quillan are living in a casino. They have low paying jobs, get addicted to gambling, win big occasionally, mostly go broke; either way, the casino wins. The addiction on Quillan can also be compared to smoking, people get addicted and can't stop and they eventually get hurt or hurt someone. It's only the matter of time before it happens.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes action and fantasy books. Be sure to read the other books in the series first. I would give this book an A+ because it is very exciting and leaves you thinking.
