Divergent-Veronica Roth

Divergent by Veronica Roth (2012, Paperb...Amity, Dauntless, Erudite, or Abnegation, which faction would you chose?

Tris and Caleb are about to turn sixteen. Which means they have a very big decision to make. . . Amity, Dauntless, Erudite, or Abnegation. After an aptitude test and Choosing Ceremony you stay in the faction of your choosing. Hopefully forever. Everyone has chosen their faction, except Tris. Her and Caleb have lived in Abnegation all their lives, and that is what Tris wanted to pick. Until her brother Caleb picked Erudite. Now she doesn’t know what to do. A partial reason for this was her aptitude test, it was. . . inconclusive. Mind racing it’s Tris’ turn to chose her faction. Amity, Erudite, Dauntless, of Abnegation? Dauntless, she chose Dauntless.

Now that she is a Dauntless initiate, she has to prove her self. Big time! Tris doesn’t have to prove her self t get higher up in the "competition" or for people to be scared of her. She has to prove herself to live to have a faction. She doesn’t want to get kicked out or become faction-less. No one does.

First thing, they have to do as initiates is jump off a train. Then, a building. Nothing to scary, right? It happened quickly, she past! Though, many others did not. She is safe, scared, but safe. Along with two young kids. Christina and Will. The three of them decide to partner up, and eventually end up friends. But, there is three others that made it as well. Peter, Molly, and Al. Which soon become their enemies.
As they fight each other, and get ranked. They are actually getting closer to being real Dauntless. Until, Visiting Day comes around. Tris figured that her parents wouldn’t come. She was a traitor, but her mom did come! How exciting! The thing was she wasn’t there for fun, she was there for business. Business the Dauntless don’t know about yet. Except, Eric the Dauntless leader, and Four’s Arch enemy

Four is a trainer for initiates, and may be a little more for Tris. They partner up for training, until they take a test. This test is not a physical test like they are used to. It’s a mental test, a test where you face our fears in a simulation. Tris passes the test with flying colors, it’s the thing after she can’t wrap her head around. Eric gives you a shot after your simulation. Saying it’s supposed to help them feel better. What a lie.

Everyone gets the shot when they are done with the simulation, but what they don’t know is that it is putting everyone in danger. When everyone becomes brainwashed, Tris is fine. Why? Tris is something different, she knows it, Tris knows she can save everyone!

To be honest I didn’t really like this book. Yeah it was pretty good, but it just seamed I don’t know. . . awkward. I think I feel this way because this book is all in the preparation, mediation, and withdrawal stage of the Hero’s journey. It made it feel long and a little boring. The one thing I didn’t like at all was the romance. All of it felt forced and weird in my eyes. Even though I didn’t like this book very much, I want to read the next book coming out. You know what I mean? You can’t start a book unfinished. The one thing I loved in this book was the determination to save her friends and family. That could even be the theme. Determination. All in all, this was an okay book. I didn’t hate it. I was also thinking " what would I be?" I decided to be Amity if I had to choose because they are so peaceful. What would you choose?
