This is What I Did by Ann Dee Ellis

What would you do if you saw something terrible happen to your friend, and you didn’t do anything to stop it?

This is What I Did is about a middle school boy named Logan. Logan has some . . . social problems. First of all, he has just moved from his old town to a new highly judgmental town. Where many people bully him, and his fellow classmates tell their parents he is not the best person to be around. Logan never was social to begin with, but he had one important friend. Zyler. Him and Zyler are completely opposite of each other, but completely the same.
There is one minor problem: both Logan, and Zyler both like a girl named Cami. This Girl they like is pretty shy, but very kind. The boys love to talk to her, and love to ride by her house on their bikes. Although, Zyler and Logan act a little creepy, it’s all in pure fun. Not to Zyler’s dad. He doesn’t think anything is fun.

Zyler comes from a aggressive family, which Logan doesn’t really know about very well. Zylers father is a major alcoholic, and beats his son every chance he gets. Even though this happens to Logan’s friend it doesn’t come into any conversations. Until one night.
Just as normal, Logan and Zyler were riding past Cami’s house, but Zyler was riding really slow. It seamed as if he may of been distracted. Logan knew something was wrong. Even though Zyler said he was fine, but he still knew. So, that night Logan snuck out of his house, and into Zyler’s house. When he was walking to Zyler’s room he heard some weird noises. They sounded like kissing noises! What! They were kissing! Zyler has never kissed anyone! As Logan is looking at this is disgust he hears the door slam. It was Zyler’s father. Luckily Logan sees his dad, and quickly hides. On the other hand, Zyler did not see his dad, and his father was angry! Angry at the girl, that music was on, and that Zyler went behind his back. Zyler’s dad was so angry: he slapped, punched, and kicked Zyler. He even tried to rape Cami! During this time Logan just stood there staring at what was happening. After the most is over, Cami runs away. And something big happens. Zyler kills his dad.

This book was amazing! I loved how much attention you have during the book. Although, there was quite a bit a swearing, and violence. On the other hand, what book doesn’t? The book really makes you think of that situation. What would you do? The sad thing is: this happens all the time, and we don’t do anything to stop it. There is so many "deadbeat parents" that we just watch. This really teaches us to stand up and be responsible. We need to handle situations like adults. Even though most of us that are reading this are young. We can still learn from this book.

That was a good review! Have you read Wither? This book sounds slightly like Wither.

This book sounds really good. It is really sad how we just sit on our butts and watch these "deadbeat" parents.
