The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games by Susanne Collins is an incredible book. It takes place in the future where everybody lived in districts. There are twelve districts and one Capitol. The smaller the number, the better off the district is and the closer, as in feeling, not location, it is to the capitol. The main character, Katniss Everdeen, lives in District 12.

Each year, all the districts have two tributes go into the Hunger Games. This is where 24 children, two from each district, go into an arena and kill each other until one is left. When Prim, Katniss's little sister, gets chosen, she volunteers herself. The boy tribute was the baker's son, Peeta.

Haymitch, Peeta's and Katniss's mentor, tells them that the audience always loves a good love story. To make this happen, he forces Peeta and Katniss to fake being in love. While in the arena, Peeta and Katniss pretend to have a love affair to get supplies from Haymitch and to make the viewers happy.

In the Games, Katniss is determined to win. Her motivation is all Prim and her mother, seeing as how her dad died when she was little. Yet, at the same time, she doesn't want Peeta to die. So they decide to help each other survive.

This is a really good book. I loved it. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. It is truly amazing. It's not like a lot of other books out there. To me, this book shows the bigger issues of how some places can be. For example, the Capitol is this beautiful, elaborate place where the people are treated fairly, whereas in District 12 the people are treated poorly, it's dirty and quite disgusting in some places. Anybody who loves adventure should read it. I give it an A+.
