Unwind
Front CoverThis book is a fiction novel that Neil Shusterman wrote. Some back round information that you may need to know if that before the story takes place is what unwinding is and how it came to be. Before everything in the story happens there was a huge war. It was pretty much the second Civil War in America and they call it the Heartland war. It was a war over Abortion. The people finally came to a compromise and voted for Unwinding. Unwinding happens when a kid age 13-18 isn't being good or breaking the laws or is a “tithe”. Tithing happens before the child is born and the parents sign an Unwind order mostly for religious reasons. They get sent away to a harvest camp and there they are examined. Once their examinations are done they are unwound, or they get all of their body parts taken out of them and they are donated to people around the world.

This book starts off from a character named Connor who is a rough kid. He is always getting into trouble and doesn't know when to back down. It also follows a girl named Risa who grew in a StaHo or state home. They are both going to be unwound. Another character in this book is a boy named Levi. He is a tithe.  When Connor finds out he is being unwound he runs away and that’s where he meets Risa and Lev. On the side of a freeway he gets caught by the police and uses Lev as a hostage to get away. Risa meets the two boys later in the forest.

This book is many things but I would say that it was instructive to me. It taught me to value life more and that no matter how bad someone is they still deserve to live. It is definitely on of those books that get you thinking about what could happen in the future. It is also entertaining. This book is for everyone. It has plenty of action for the kids that love reading action books. It is also for the kids that like to have them thinking after it’s done. I personally think that it is totally unethical for people to just sign a paper and have kids go be sent away and have all of their body parts being used in someone else. There is a character in the book that practically looses his mind because he had a brain transplant from a teenager that was unwound. I am very glad that the author included people in the book that opposed the government’s point of view. And I think it is a very dark, but creative book. I think it is a totally new thing to the world of books. I've never read anything like it. It is very unique. But I think it’s a little creepy that the author was able to think of something so dark

All in all I absolutely loved this book! It was totally one of the best books I've read in the past couple years. I loved the creativity and uniqueness. I would give this book an A+
