And Then There Were None

And Then There Were None:

            The name says it all…starting with ten and ending with none at all. The writer of this mystery, Agatha Christie, wrote it so incredibly well. There was an overwhelming theme of death and betrayal throughout this entire book. Each of the ten characters involved seemed so clueless as to whom the murderer was, but there were obviously some good actors in the group.

            The book starts out with a nice background story of how each character was summoned to the recently purchased Soldier Island. Mr. Owen was supposedly the new owner of the highly talked about island. He was never seen nor spoken to by any one before the gathering. But all of the ten that were summoned arrived as they were told; they got on a boat and arrived to the island as soon as possible.

            They were all complete strangers, but quickly got acquainted with one another. Once they arrived at the house, they each got a room. One of the guests noticed an old nursery rhyme in her room, and was actually placed in every other room as well.

Ten little soldier boys went out to dine;

One choked his little self and then there were nine.

Nine little soldier boys sat up very late;

One overslept himself and then there were eight.

Eight little soldier boys travelling in Devon;

One said he’d stay there and then there were seven.

Seven little soldier boys chopping up sticks;

One chopped himself in halves and then there were six.

Six little soldier boys playing with a hive;

A bumble bee sung one and then there were five.

Five little soldier boys going in for law;

One got Chancery and then there were four.

Four little soldier boys going out to sea;

A red herring swallowed one and then there were three.

Three little soldier boys walking in the Zoo;

A big bear hugged on and then there were two.

Two little soldier boys sitting on the sun;

One got frizzled up and then there was one.

One little soldier boy left all alone;

He went and hanged himself

And then there were none.

Do you get it? Soldier boys dying…they’re on Soldier Island, and then they died. Creepy, right? The mystery murderer was so clever as to follow this poem almost exactly in each murder. Every guest was executed one by one. With only them on the small island, one of them was sure to be the murderer, but whom? That is the question. It was… I obviously can’t tell you who it was because the whole story would be ruined! You’ll have to read it for yourself.

This book was so amazing. How some one could write about ten people being executed, I have no idea. They were all just killed off like it was no big deal. As I was reading, I was a little freaked out by it all, but it’s a murder mystery. What do you expect? I think the best way to describe the end of this book is just shocking, and positively mind blowing. The author wrote it so well that there is absolutely no way in guessing the outcome. The suspense built so much that it made it a book that is pretty much impossible to put down. Believe me, you must read it. And Then There Were None is beyond incredible, it definitely deserves and A+!

I have wanted to read this for so long. You did a very good review on it, I think I might already have a clue who the murderer is..? Do you recommend it for someone who is into like action books like Hunger Games, etc? It seems like something I would love! I need crazy action murder books just like this.

When I read this book at the start I thought it was totally stupid. But I got extremely hooked after the 2nd death because the murderer was so complicated but followed the rhyme. But i loved your review!

Okay first of all this was an AMAZING review. NIce word choice. I have always liked murder mysteries but i was pretty skeptical about reading this one. After that review though, there's no way I won't read it! Very good job.
