The Death Cure, by James Dashner

Thrilling. In one word, this is the best way I can describe The Death Cure. This book an action packed, thrill ride of a good book. I thought it was awesome. This book is post-apocalyptic fictional story that will keep you on the edge of your seat reading. Anything can happen in the future so you never know what to expect until it jumps out and scares you to death. The Death cure is the last book in the Maze Runner Trilogy, and in my opinion by far the best. (By the way, you HAVE to read the first two books before the third.)

I might spoil the first two books for you in this summary. If you wish not to continue, do, just skip down two paragraphs.

Background:
-Thomas was placed in a maze with no memory along with 30 other boys.
-They were being tested to provide information on how to create a cure for the flare. (a disease wiping out the human race)
-Thomas and his friends are being tested because they are some of the very few that are immune to the Flare.
-WICKED hopes that they will catch something different in the way they react to events, and compared the reactions to those who are not immune. Thus creating a cure for the Flare.
-Many governments came together to form the organization running the tests or trials, WICKED.
-When Thomas and his friends completed the maze, WICKED decided they didn't have enough data and black mailed them into participating in more tests.
- After many deaths through the 2nd test, the Scorch Trial, WICKED once again tricked Thomas into one more test.

This book starts with Thomas in the middle of the third trial: trapped in solitude for many months in a white room. When Thomas is told the trial is over he is reunited with his friends that have all just finished trials of their own. While reuniting, the people from WICKED tell them they are now going to receive their memories. These were taken from them before each of them entered the maze. Thomas, Minho, and Newt (other immunes, friends of Thomas) decide they have had enough of the lying and cheating of WICKED. When they felt the time was right, they fought and somehow overpowered the guards and security of WICKED. They are free. Now they are on a plane evading WICKED's campus, and head off to a place called Denver. It is here in Denver that Thomas realizes WICKED will stop at nothing to find a cure. People are being kidnapped and killed all over the place. Now is the time Thomas and his friends decide they will never be free... until WICKED is destroyed.

I am very sad this is the last book in the series because I think James Dashner is an amazing author as well as an artist. I say this because not only does Dashner tell a great story, he teaches hidden lessons and brings out a deeper meaning in a lot of his books. In the Death Cure I think the main theme was reject the status quo and stand up for what you believe in. When Thomas was being held captive in WICKED headquarters and was threatened with cruel punishments, he didn't even think twice before he stood up for himself and others. Then when Thomas is free in Denver and could have very have stayed hidden and under the radar he risked his life to save all the people that couldn't escape WICKED. Thomas is a brave hero in my book.

This was truly one of my favorite books I have ever read. The way it was written kept me intrigued and thirsty for more. I loved this book however it did have some vulgar language. It did not have a ton, but when you are reading so fast because you love the story and then you read something that I feel is so profane, it kind of kills the moment. Other than that large aspect this book was awesome. I agree with a lot of the points the author brings up and I can even relate such a fictional story to my own life. I highly recommend this A+ of a book.
