Twilight
By Stephenie Myers

First off I'd just like to say that I have zero idea how this book became a best seller. That fact goes in one ear, past my logically wired brain, and out the other. This book is told from the perspective of Bella, a teen who just moved backed to Forks, Washington to live with her dad. She's very...melodramatic. That pretty much sums up her character. Well, Bella starts school and she sees this family of teenage "brothers and sisters"(most are adopted). She looks straight through the other siblings and focuses her attention on one. Edward.

Edward's character bugged me. There is only one part of him that I like. I mean he's just so full of himself! He always, always is showing off, even when he doesn't mean to be. The only thing I like about his character is the fact that he shows self control. Most of the teenage population has either read the books or seen the movies so I hope you all agree on when I say that when I read the book, I had no clue what he was supposed to look like based on the Author's description of him! I swear she just said that he looked like more of a "pretty boy"! I was forced to go by the movies portrayal of him. That bugged me.

Bella...oh Bella. She portrays every love sick teen girl out there. She makes it seem like every time he gestures to her he's really telling her he loves her. Yuck. Her character angers me. She has zero confidence in herself. She doesn't think she's good enough for him, she doesn't think she could ever be...important arghh!!!!! All around she's completely dependent upon his love for her and his strength. She is an insult to healthy relationships everywhere.

In conclusion, I think it's safe to say that Myers is a terrible author and the world would be better off without the Twilight Saga.

Fahrenheit 451- Ray Bradbury

If you want to read a book that makes perfect sense, has a loveable plot, and is constantly grabbing your attention, GO AWAY!!! You won't find that here. I'm sorry, but I did not like this book at all. The characters had little depth, it made practicaly no sense, and the premise was totally wacko. Wacko...wacko... that's not a word is it? Oh well. Even though I strongly disliked this book, the show must go on. I will start by giving a quote from the back of the book, to give you some background knowledge.

"Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires. And he enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for ten years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs or the joy of watching pages consumed by flames, never questioned anything until he met a seventeen-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid. then Guy met a professor who told him of a future in which people could think. And Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do..."

So, to sum this up, Guy is a guy who burns books. He likes it too. But then he meets a young girl (Who dies) and an old guy (Who almost dies) who change his mind. Then he goes crazy because he reads books. After that, the Firecheif, Beatty, sends a hound with a poisonus proboscis after him. Meanwhile, his wife goes crazy and is addicted to TV. Then he lives with hoboes who have book upon book memorized. As you can see, this book had a confusing plotline, and isn't all that great. Sigh...

Now, I will focus on the deeper meaning of this book. I didn't have to search very hard, because the whole time the book is screaming them at your face. Here are a few: DON'T WATCH TV, READ BOOKS, LISTEN TO PEOPLE, BE CURIOUS, DON'T DO DRUGS! All of this did get annoying after a little while, so if you you read this book, don't be suprised if you find yourself wanting to put it down.

To conclude, I did not like this book. If you want to read it, go ahead, but I sure feel sorry for you. D-

Romeo and Juliet The Book, By William Shakespeare

If I asked anyone what this book was about, they would probably tell me something like Romeo and Juliet is about a boy and a girl who love each other but can't be together, but Romeo and Juliet is about so much more than that. It's about love, hope, and most importantly, death.

This book starts with a huge street fight between Montague and Capulet supporters who are sworn enemies. Later this strange prince names Count Paris wants to marry Juliet, Capulet's daughter. Obviously Caplet is not sure about this idea because after all, she is only thirteen.Caplet tells Paris to wait two years, and then invites him to a ball.

While this is all going on, Romeo, Montague's son, is extremely depressed because he could not marry this women named Rosaline, who is Capulet's niece, whom Romeo was in love with. Convinced by his cousin Benvolio and his dad Mercutio, Romeo attends the call at Capulet's house in hopes of meeting Rosaline. Instead he meets and falls in love with Juliet. After the ball, the famous "balcony scene" happens. Romeo sneaks into the Capulet orchard and overhears Juliet at her window promising her love to him, even though her family hates the Montagues. Romeo shows his self to her and they agree to be married. With the help of a Friar Laurence, who hopes to reconcile the two families through their children's union, they are secretly married the next day.

I find this book was not only confusing at times, but sort of stupid. I would never recommend this to anyone because it is about how Romeo, who desperately wants to lose his virginity, finds a thirteen year old and falls in love. This book is also irritatingly confusing because of the old English, and because the play had to be converted to a book. My honest opinion is that Romeo and Juliet is overrated, and should be left with the past. Maybe it was amazing back then, but now, it's old and annoying.

One of the one things that really confused me was that Romeo is sixteen, and Juliet is thirteen and the are madly in love, and have sex (although it is implied, it doesn't give the details, luckily). What bothers me the most is that no one, not even Friar Laurence, cares that he is so much older than her. I did some research and it turns out it is considered illegal for kids of such age difference to do this. That's right, if Romeo and Juliet were in this century they would be breaking the law.

Overall I give this book a D-, because of stupid, confusing, and just plain uninteresting scenes. The only reason why this ridiculous waste of paper is not getting an "F", is because of the bond between the two lovers is sort of touching, to my tiny, critic heart. Thank you for reading! :)

Gateway, by Sharon Shinn

Gateway, by Sharon Shinn is not the best book. It's just one of those books where you're always mad at the characters, because they are just so stupid, naive, dense and so on...
In this book the main character, a girl named Daiyu, is transported into a parallel world where she is recruited to send a charmingly devious tyrant back to his own parallel world. Along the way she falls in love, blows her cover, and emerges a hero in the end. Then returns to her world to find a shocking surprise, but if you ask me it was pretty obvious what was going to happen. This book was extremely predictable and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!
A big part of this book was the author trying to get you to believe that all people are important and created equal. The girl is always trying to cross social lines in the strange world and that is what ruins her mission, blah, blah, blah.
Gateway is just one of those books that you don't really care what happens, but you're just interested enough to keep reading. I had a hard time getting to the part where the action started and the intro stopped.
The story line was simply boring and the events were unoriginal and pre-used. The names of people and places are about the most interesting thing about this book. Believe me, I'm not very interested in romance, but even I could tell you that the romance in this book really sucked.
I hope I don't offend anyone with my opinion, but if I do, I don't care. Overall it was a boring adventure, a crappy romance and a stupid story. I really had to force myself through this book, it was no good, so I'm giving it a D-.

The Secret Language Of Girls

The Secret Language of Girls by Frances O'Roark Dowell was not my favorite book, at all. I did not like this book and I will tell you why in just a minute.
But first... let me give you a summary. It's about two friends Marylin, and Kate who are BFF's... or so they thought. They go through their rough patches and stuff like that, yadda... yadda... yadda. That's basically all it is.
So... you know how when you write in your journal and there is that month when you just write... nothin' important or anything like that. I mean, there might be some good parts... just there's nothing really that good to tell about. Well... that's how this was. It just wasn't anything exciting. it's just normal everyday life. But I guess that this wasn't normal, it was way to... what's the word? Different? for 11 year olds life. I mean, "normal life" was like being in 4th grade all over again. And then some parts, you'd think that they were immature 17 year olds. There is gossip about relationships, (4th grade), silly little relationships (4th grade), and spin the bottle at a party. (immature 17 year olds, although I guess it could still be classified under 4th grade.) I mean, nothing is really age appropriate in this book. It's stupid. And there are stupid little fights like in fourth grade. Really guys??? Really??? There are a lot of parts that people can relate to, but overall, I just didn't like this book. I thought it was pretty stupid the whole time I was reading it, and to be honest with you there was probably only one part I liked. That was it. So if your at the library, DO NOT PICK THIS BOOK UP!!! Go pick up something a lot better, such as Harry Potter. Grade: D-.
